Sundy plantation

Eddington considered several possible sites on the island. Some he dismissed as too close to the mountains and therefore liable to cloud. Eventually, he opted for Roça Sundy, a Portuguese colonial plantation in the north of the island, and set up his telescopes in an open area.

This may have been the building in which Eddington stayed. The plantation office still contains a picture of Albert Einstein.
Sundy from the air. It was a good choice for minimal cloud cover!
