Summary
This page explains what information this website collects and how you can control it.
The site is run by Simone Scaringi. For any question about this notice, or to exercise your data protection rights, email simone.scaringi@durham.ac.uk.
Analytics cookies
With your consent, I use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are most useful, so that I can improve the site. Google Analytics is off by default: nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookies are set unless you click “Accept” in the cookie banner. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR and EU GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
If you accept, Google Analytics sets the following cookies:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes visitors | 2 years |
_ga_LRNPQ57YRM | Keeps track of the current visit | 2 years |
Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, your approximate location, and your device and browser type. It does not log or store IP addresses. I do not use this data to identify you, and Google’s advertising features are switched off. Google acts as a data processor, and data may be processed outside the UK and EU under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Changing your choice
Your choice is stored in your browser so that you are not asked on every page. You can change it at any time; if you withdraw consent, the analytics cookies are deleted.
Third-party content
Some content comes from other services, which receive your IP address when it loads and may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies:
- Google Fonts, for the site typefaces, on every page – Google Privacy Policy
- YouTube, only when you press play on a video on the Outreach page. Videos are loaded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) – Google Privacy Policy
Links to other websites, such as journals, arXiv and NASA ADS, are covered by those sites’ own policies.
Your rights
Under data protection law you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data held about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or the authority in your own country.
